Pooch-Pleasing Guide to San Francisco's Marina

Put four paws to the pavement -- “Dog About Town” is here. Join us every week or two for a spotlight on the Bay Area’s best dog-friendly neighborhoods. This week: A Pooch-Pleasing Guide to San Francisco’s Marina.

City dogs all around the bay love their Marina weekends. And really, who can blame them? With so many dog-centric shops, eateries and even a beach, it’s the best of city living and the great outdoors all in one beautiful spot.

Uncover your dog’s desire at these top dog shops.

Catnip and Bones – 2220 Chestnut Street
All the warm, friendly charm of a neighborhood shop, this quaint Marina retailer offers pet paraphernalia to die for. Accessorize your pup in their unique selection of collars, pup wear and apparel. Indulge him with a luxurious bed. And keep him in top shape with healthy snacks, foods and grooming products that really are as good as they look.

Animal Connection – 2419 Chestnut Street
At the very end of Chestnut’s beaten path is a Marina dog’s hidden secret. The Animal Connection’s no frills storefront gets right down to the business at paw – a jam-packed selection of fuzzy and squeaky toys, treats, food and apparel. Squeeze in for doggie deals on everything you need.

Sure there are dog-friendly restaurants on Chestnut (just look for the water bowls), but why not pack a picnic, and head on out to the fun spots. Your dog will love you for it.

Blue Barn – 2105 Chestnut Street
Dive in to the abundance of fresh local foods at Blue Barn. Make your own salad with gorgeous greens or order up a savory sandwich to go.

Lucca's Deli – 2120 Chestnut Street
This authentic old-style Italian deli turns out delectable sandwiches every time. With a delightful selection of freshly baked rolls (be sure to try the dutch crunch), fresh meats, and cheeses, you’ll think you’re in North Beach not the Marina.

Greens’ Take-Out - Fort Mason Bldg A
The right bite for vegetarian dog people on the go, the legendary Greens at Fort Mason offers take-out too. Find veggie sandwiches, salads, and soups, all made from the very best organic ingredients.

The Marina makes it easy to dote on your dog. With dog-friendly parks and beaches from one end to the other, it’s practically a playground for pups and their people.

Crissy Field
Off leash and fancy free, this West Beach dog heaven is the ultimate spot to chase balls, romp in the waves and sink all twenty toes in the sand.

Fort Mason
Take in the world-famous views of the Golden Gate, the hills of Marin and Alcatraz from the expansive Fort Mason lawn.  And it’s a top spot for socializing, whether you have two legs or four.

Presidio
Pup paradise right in your own backyard, the Presidio packs the course of breathtaking hikes under California’s Eucalyptus canopy. Pack your lunch, pick a trail and head out for afternoon of the Bay, the big blue ocean and quiet time with your best friend.
