Summertime in Tahoe can be tail waggin' paradise. And have we got the place to stay: Rustic Cottages. A recent recipient of The California Dog Lovers' Companion 'Golden Bone Award,' it offers Tahoe-style cottages at an affordable price and is located right on the main drag in Tahoe Vista. Right smack in the middle of dog heaven.
Don't expect a fancy-five-star. This is not the spot for Paris and Tinkerbell. But Rustic Cottages offers a clean, cozy, central place to stay for ruff and rugged fun. Cabins are private, each uniquely designed with rustic decor, and many come with a small kitchen and fireplace.
In the summer, you and your pooch can frolic in the surf and sand at the local beaches, hike gorgeous nearby trails, BBQ or yappy hour on your own private wooden deck, or just lounge on the grass lawn.
In the morning, guests gather in the main lodge to enjoy complimentary homemade waffles and muffins. Warm brownies are served from 4-5 pm.
Like many hotels that allow pets, dogs must be crated if left in the room alone. So don't forget to pack the portable crate. But in a dog-friendly place like Tahoe, why would you leave them behind?
