If you’ve always wanted to learn how to knit, there’s a good chance the book Knit Your Own Dog will finally motivate you to pick up a pair of knitting needles. This charming book features step-by-step detailed instructions and patterns for knitting adorable miniature dogs.
|Whether you’d like to create a mini-me of your own pup, a memorial to honor a beloved dog that has passed, or fabulous gifts for the dog lovers in your life, this book is a perfect guide. And in addition to the instructions, the book includes fun facts about the various breeds included.|
Knit Your Own Dog, from British authors Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne, contains patterns for the following 25 different breeds: Afghan Hound, Basset Hound, Border Collie, Cocker Spaniel, Corgi, Dachshund, Dalmatian, English Bulldog, English Bull Terrier, French Bulldog, German Shepherd, Jack Russell, Labrador, Miniature Schnauzer, Old English Sheepdog, Poodle, Portuguese Water Dog, Pug, Red Setter, Rough Collie, Scottish Terrier, Siberian Husky, West Highland Terrier, Whippet, Wire-haired Fox Terrier.
If your favorite breed is not included or is a mixed breed, don't despair. The designers suggest creating your ideal pup by combining parts of different breed patterns. Change the needle size, yarn type, color and stitch and create any dog imaginable. In a recent article featuring an interview with the authors, Muir and Osborne suggest improvising with their patterns. For instance, try different yarns and colors, making the dog’s leg’s shorter or longer, and doing whatever you'd like to make the dog unique and giving it personality.
While the book serves intermediate and experienced knitters better than beginners, the detailed and easy to follow instructions and absolute charm of these 6-inch dogs will be just the inspiration to learn. At the very least, they’ll encourage you to seek out the knitter in your life (we all have one), and beg them to make you a dog or help you learn on your own.
